Parents as Teachers

What is Parents as Teachers?

Parents as Teachers is a parent education and family support program serving families from pregnancy until your child turns three year old.

Personal visits and developmental screenings are provided free of charge to Tolland families. Fees may apply for some Group Connections/Playgroups. Financial assistance is available.

Why get involved?

The period from birth to three years old is an important time when your child’s brain is ready for learning in all areas of development. Parents as Teachers can help you capture that window of opportunity so your child starts school ready to succeed!

Program Components:

Personal Visits
A Parent Educator will share a fun, developmentally appropriate activity for you and your child. Child development and parenting handouts are also provided.

Group Connections
A variety of weekly playgroups are offered for all ages. Parenting classes and seminars are offered periodically.

Developmental Screenings
The Ages & Stages Questionnaires® are utilized to assess your child’s overall development and social-emotional growth.

Resource Network
Parent educators are able to connect families with various community resources and services.

Personal Visit Spotlight
Your Parent Educator will arrive at your home with everything needed for a fun-filled hour with you and your child. You don’t need to plan a thing!

Your Parent Educator will partner with you to tailor each visit to your child's current developmental stage and your parenting concerns.  We will bring an activity to stimulate your child’s development, as well as handouts regarding healthy development and  parenting topics.

Visits are scheduled for a day and time that is convenient for you. A variety of days and times are available. Visits may be weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on your family’s needs.
